Evidence of Planning - The Tigger Movie - Jordan

The film opens to an establishing shot of a view of the young boy, Christopher Robin's bedroom, within the scene a narrator introduces the character and the story as a whole. As the story is about a child's imaginary friends in the form of his toy animals. The narrator mentions they have many adventures in an enchanted place (hundred acre wood)  which instantly gives off the feeling that it's a fantasy/adventure genre film. The narrator explains about all of Christopher's friends including his best friend, Whinnie the Pooh. As soon as Pooh bear is mentioned Tigger (In cartoon form) jumps out onto the screen and starts complaining to the narrator saying that the stories should be more about him rather than Pooh bear. The narrator in response says, "but the title is already Whinnie the Pooh" showing a book with Whinnie the Pooh as the title, which normally sets Pooh bear as the main character, however Tigger takes the title and changes it around to say "The Tigger Movie" and then jumps into the book which shows Tigger to be the main character and not Pooh bear. The camera then moves into the book, starting the enchanting adventure in Hundred acre wood.
The film is an animated adventure/fantasy about a child's stuffed animals which connects to practically every child because every child has at least one stuffed animal and many children do fantasize about their toys coming to life which is exactly what this film is about. A boy's creativity playing with his alive toys in an enchanted place.
The atmosphere of the opening sequence is relaxed as it is set out as the narrator telling a story, it really gives off the feeling that your going to hear a good tale and Tigger's interruption makes the story telling vibe a lot more exciting.

Evidence of Planning - Up - Sam

The information relayed in the opening scene shows the life of the old man. This sets up the back story for that character making the rest of the film better for the consumer knowing that information. The different characters in the film are slightly stereotyped. For example the old man is cranky and has a walking stick. The young boy is full of energy and talks a lot.

The film establishes the location during the opening scene, this shows the man and his wife building there home and sets the scene for the film.

The genre is a family adventure film. This is shown because it is animated which is more typical for a family film. The film also has more family oriented characters such as a talking dog a young boy and an old man. The film is also set in distant lands away from the main characters homes which shows that it is an adventure film.

The film has a song that is played throughout the film and changed in tone depending on the situation. e.g. if it is a sad scene then the song is played slowly and if it is happy then it is played in a more upbeat fashion.

Evidence of planning - The Polar Express - Lynsey

This opening sequence involves an introduction to the main character, a little boy. There is a narration by a man before you see the boy, and he talks about himself as in the boy is him, and he is speaking about that night. You first see him in his bed on christmas eve, until he opens his eyes to the sound of bells and sneaks downstairs to see whether santa has come. He becomes excited when he sees a shadow in the shape of santa claus, but his disappointment is obvious when he realises its his family making the noise, and hides in his room listening to their conversation about how he doesn't really believe in santa. He proceeds to look at lots of different sources which prove that anyone can dress as in a red suit, many dress as santa and pretend to be him, and that the north pole is 'devoid of life.' His parents kiss him goodnight and he is then woken up by the train at exactly 5 to midnight.

the narration gives the instant realisation that the young boy is the main character.
This film is an animated adventure, containing fantasy and set at christmas time. the opening sequence sticks to the conventions of a childrens film, it is something any child who celebrates christmas would experience, staying up late at night hoping to see santa. The main character is a very ordinary looking young boy, with ordinary pyjamas, and looks rather boring. The establishing shot of this film comes down from the sky, it is snowing, which makes the perfect christmas eve's night to wake up to fresh snow on christmas day. It is all supposed to be perfect except the little boy's disbelief. the overall atmosphere is tense but exciting, its building up to something exciting occuring.

Jillian - I remember the day. That day.

Jillian - I was on my way to the supermarket when i saw it on the ground. a mask. i knew there was something strange going on as soon as i saw it. Then I noticed there was something underneath.

*Jillian picks up mask*

Sharon - No brush. *ghostly voice*

Glenda 2 - Classification

The classification of our children's introduction sequence will be PG. It is PG because there is no discrimination, no drugs, no horror, no imitable behavior, no bad language, no sex/nudity, our theme will not condone any sorts of violence to fit in the PG guidelines, it has moderate violence and this will push the rating up to PG instead of U.
