The information relayed in the opening scene shows the life of the old man. This sets up the back story for that character making the rest of the film better for the consumer knowing that information. The different characters in the film are slightly stereotyped. For example the old man is cranky and has a walking stick. The young boy is full of energy and talks a lot.

The film establishes the location during the opening scene, this shows the man and his wife building there home and sets the scene for the film.

The genre is a family adventure film. This is shown because it is animated which is more typical for a family film. The film also has more family oriented characters such as a talking dog a young boy and an old man. The film is also set in distant lands away from the main characters homes which shows that it is an adventure film.

The film has a song that is played throughout the film and changed in tone depending on the situation. e.g. if it is a sad scene then the song is played slowly and if it is happy then it is played in a more upbeat fashion.
